Locksmith Animation (Ron’s Gone Wrong) has optioned Marissa Meyer‘s New York Times bestselling novel series The Lunar Chroniclesfor film, the London-based CG animation producer announced today.
The series published by Feiwel & Friends is comprised of titles including Cinder (2012), Scarlet (2013), Cress (2014) and Winter (2015), which reimagine the stories of classic fairy tale heroines.
The books are set in a futuristic world, beset by a pandemic, where Earth and its former colony Luna exist in a perpetual state of unrest and tension. In the first book, Cinder, a teenage cyborg of the same name (modeled after Cinderella) deals with her wicked step-mother, finds love and discovers secrets about herself. As the series continues, she forges an alliance with spaceship pilot, Scarlet; imprisoned computer hacker, Cress; and the Lunar princess, Winter. Along with a diverse crew that includes a soldier, a criminal and a royal guard, they must work together to rise up against the evil Queen Levana to save the country and possibly even the world.

Meyer has also penned such titles as Heartless and The Renegades Trilogy, as well as the graphic novel duology Wires and Nerve. Apart from her writing, she’s best known as the host of podcast The Happy Writer.She holds a BA in Creative Writing from Pacific Lutheran University and an MA in Publishing from Pace University.
Locksmith Animation’s debut film Ron’s Gone Wrong, from directors Sarah Smith (Arthur Christmas) and Jean-Philippe Vine (Inside Out), was released by 20th Century Studios and Disney on October 22, subsequently making the BAFTA Long List in the Best Animated Film category and landing two Annie Award noms. The film penned by Smith and Pete Baynham is currently available for streaming on Disney+, HBO Max and a variety of other digital platforms.
Locksmith is currently in production on That Christmas, a holiday film based on the children’s book series by filmmaker Richard Curtis, and is also developing an original musical comedy that has been set up at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Meyer was represented in the deal for The Lunar Chronicles by CAA in association with Jill Grinberg Literary Management.

The book takes place after WW4 so it's very cool, the characters had great depth and even the villains were well written too! This series had a few passionate kisses ( one character moans while kissing in a closet) but no other sexual content that is implied.

A worthy and wonderful addition to an AWESOME series. First things first: I LOVE the Lunar Chronicles. Marissa Meyer's wonderfully descriptive, action-packed, romantic style elevates these books above many, many YA reads that I've tried out over the last couple of years.
Winter is the fourth and final book in The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. The book features Winter (based on Snow White) and takes place on Luna.
Later on, Scarlet discovers that Wolf is not what he had told her, a "Loyal Soldier to the Order of the Pack" (judged from his LSOP0962 tattoo), but actually a genetically-modified Lunar named Ze'ev Kelsey, who was a Lunar Special Operative.
Cinder has a slight, thin build, naturally tanned skin and straight brown hair below her shoulders, which is usually worn in a messy ponytail. Cinder looks very much like her mother, Queen Channary, who had the same features.
Kai has black hair with bangs that always seem to hang unkempt across his brow or in his eyes. He has startlingly copper brown eyes and was described to be quite tall, having to bend down a good bit to be at eye level with Cinder, the first time they met.
Winter learned that Thaumaturge Aimery Park was torturing the poor servant, and Winter realized that by trying to help, she had only made it worse, so she stopped using her gift completely. This caused her to develop Lunar sickness, giving her hallucinations and making her go insane.
Crescent Moon, or Cress, as she is called, is a 16-year-old Lunar girl who has been imprisoned in a satellite station for most of her life. Cress was born without bioelectric Lunar ability and is considered to be a “shell” by her people.
Cress is 16, and Throne is in his early twenties. Most of the other ships also have considerable gaps, such as Scarlet and Wolf, Scarlet being 18 and Wolf 23. Jacin and Winter are only a few years apart and Cinder and Kai are probably the closest.
Linh Cinder, a 16-year-old cyborg mechanic. She is based on Cinderella. Iko, Cinder's android assistant. Iko sometimes forgets that she's not human due to her "malfunctioning" personality chip.
Scarlet Benoit is an 18-year-old redhead living on her grandmother's farm in Rieux, France. Scarlet's grandmother Michelle Benoit has gone missing. Scarlet is worried and determined to find out what happened to her. While the police think Michelle left on her own, Scarlet knows her grandmother wouldn't do that.

And there are a lot of elements of the story that have survived—a girl oppressed by her stepmother, a fancy ball, a handsome prince. But I also took a lot of creative license with the tale: Cinder is set in the far future, my main character is a cyborg, and there's a deadly plague sweeping the planet.
